2-Day Chicago Intensive
Available spots
Service Description
In this 2-day intensive, we will establish the basic tenets of clown and put them into practice through a series of improvisational games and exercises. Accompanied by live direction, performers will be challenged to expand their vocal and physical range, sharpen their comedic rhythm and strengthen their connection with the audience. The aim of the workshop is twofold, to create space for performers to re-discover their innate sense of play and to instill a comedic philosophy, with no form but limitless possibilities, for performers of all disciplines. WORKSHOP ADMISSION INCLUDES: 1 ticket to HONEST WORK // Oct. 17th 8pm // Studio Momentum DAY 1 // Oct. 18th 12-5 // Logan Square Improv DAY 2 // Oct. 19th 10:30-3:30 // Studio Momentum SHOWCASE // Oct. 19th 4:30-5:30 // Studio Momentum This class is not for beginners to performance, but it would make for a great introduction to clown and physical theater. The majority of this class will be solo performance, so each student will receive prescriptive direction and feedback to meet them at their individual level of play. Kevin Gregory Krieger is a comedian and director based in Los Angeles, CA. Combining clown, standup, sketch and improvisation, his live performances have taken him to stages across the region, including Pasadena’s Civic Center Auditorium where he was featured on NBC’s America’s Got Talent. Under the tutelage and direction of John Gilkey (Cirque Du Soleil), Kevin performed in the critically-acclaimed improvisational clown ensemble The Murge, which LA Weekly dubbed, "Spontaneous theater of the absurd…LA’s craziest improv show.” Kevin would go on to train in the Idiot Workshop pedagogy and teach for the workshop for nearly a decade. In 2023, Kevin directed Claire Woolner’s solo show Retrospection which was called “captivating throughout” by The New York Times and went on to win Best of Hollywood Fringe. Kevin co-owned the indie clown theater Public Displays of Altadena (@pda_space) with Claire, which burned in the LA fires. “PDA” was adored by comedy lovers of all levels, and it established Kevin and Claire as “fixtures of the Los Angeles clown scene”(LA Times). Through a combination of grants and mutual aid, Kevin and Claire are seeking a location for their next venue. Kevin is currently watching children between performances of his solo show, Honest Work, a one-hour improvised attempt at the greatest show ever performed.
